STYRENE
Styrene or Styrene Monomer
Styrene is in great demand in the cosmetic, healthcare, automotive, electronics, food, packaging and furniture industries.
Also called styrene, phenylethylene or vinylbenzene, it is an aromatic hydrocarbon, liquid, oily, clear and with a sweetish odour.
It is a toxic, flammable and soluble product.
Due to its highly reactive nature and ability to polymerize easily, it is used in the production of various plastics.
Insoluble in water, it dissolves in the most common organic solvents.
Its main use is as a monomer for the production of numerous plastic materials such as polystyrene (or polystyrene), ABS acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene, SBR styrene-butadiene-rubber, styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer, SIBS.
It is widely used for plastics, rubbers, insulating foams, fibres, etc…
